SHARP helmet ratings

How safe is your helmet?
Not all motorcycle helmets offer the same level of protection.
All helmets legally sold in the UK must meet minimum safety standards. But SHARP testing goes further, putting helmets through independent impact tests to see how well they protect riders in a crash.
Helmets are awarded a rating from one to five stars:
⭐ 5 stars – highest level of protection
⭐ 1 star – lowest level of protection
SHARP testing is designed to identify helmets that offer better protection than others, helping riders make a more informed choice.
What does each star rating mean?
SHARP ratings are designed to make comparing helmets simple.

Fit comes first
There's one really important thing to remember:
A five-star helmet is no good if it doesn't fit you properly.
Your helmet needs to fit securely and comfortably and stay in place during a crash.
When choosing a helmet:
1. Try it on
Different brands and models fit different head shapes. Try as many as you can.
2. Check the fit
Your helmet should feel snug without causing painful pressure points. It shouldn't move around on your head.
3. Check the chin strap
Make sure it is adjusted correctly and fastened every time you ride.
4. Wear it for a while
A helmet can feel fine for 30 seconds but become uncomfortable after 20 minutes. Give it some time before you buy.
5. Then check the SHARP rating
Once you've found helmets that fit properly and are comfortable, use the SHARP rating to help you choose the safest option.
