Try Ride
The National Young Rider Forum has joined forces with Phoenix Motorcycle Training to offer 300 young people the chance to ride a motorcycle for just £20*.
The Try Ride sessions are available to 16-24 year-olds across the country, with more than 20 locations to choose from.
It’s as simple as this:
- Sign up to the course for £40
- Take two short online modules to prepare you
- Enjoy your riding experience & give some quick feedback
- Receive £20 back upon completion*
Bikes, helmets and PPE are provided – all you need is your jeans and a good, sturdy pair of shoes (no trainers), and a provisional licence.
Alternatively, please email bookings@teachmetoride.co.uk or call the friendly customer service team on 0330 223 4000.
Before booking, please read Phoenix's terms and conditions [PDF].
What you need to know
We are really excited to welcome you to the experience. But before you sign up, there is some important information to know!
Students need to be aged between 16-24 years and hold a current provisional licence. This will need to be produced before the Try Ride practical riding session can begin.
The rider will be provided with a motorcycle appropriate for their age and licence, basic PPE (helmets, gloves, a jacket and trousers) but must wear as a minimum jeans and strong shoes or boots. NO TRAINERS WILL BE ALLOWED.
As this is a trial project, the discounted offer is subject to the student completing the mandatory online learning package supplied and a short survey upon completion. We will also ask students to complete a follow-up survey three months after.
Once the online learning package, practical Try Ride and a short survey has been completed, Phoenix Motorcycle Training will refund half of the cost of the course (£20) back to the student on the payment method used to book on behalf of the National Young Rider Forum who is subsidising the project.
Phoenix Motorcycle Training centres are approved by the DVSA (the industry regulator), instructors are trained, DBS checked, and the centres are a safe environment for a young person to learn new riding skills.

The pre-ride modules
The first, Ridefree, is an online training course for moped and motorcycle riders created by the DVSA.
Ridefree comprises modules covering topics such as the Highway Code, PPE, Bike Maintenance etc. Once registered, it can be completed in sections, enabling riders to come back and finish the modules in a time scale that suits their needs.
The second is a brand-new resource developed by the NYRF with Esitu, thanks to funding from The Road Safety Trust.
It comprises of 18 short hazard perception/hazard prediction films, depicting 20 new hazards for would-be motorcyclists to spot.
These are real hazards, filmed from the perspective of a young motorcyclist, that can cause riders to be involved in serious crashes, if not seen out on the road.
