WHAT TO WEAR
Dress for success
You don't enjoy the same level of protection as other motorists. When you crash, you've not got the luxury of airbags, side impact protection systems, seatbelts, or head restraints.
All you've got to protect you is your riding gear.
Look after your helmet and it will look after you!
You must wear a safety helmet that meets British Safety Standards with the chin strap fasten when riding a motorcycle or moped on the road.
Never buy a second-hand helmet - it will have moulded itself to someone else's head It may look fine, but it is not always possible to spot damage from drops and crashes.
Your crash helmet should fit snugly without restricting your movement.
Always try a helmet on for size before buying it and ask your retailer to check that it fits properly.
Once you have your helmet be sure to wear it properly. It won't protect you if you fail to fasten the chin strap - and you could get three points on your licence if the police spot you riding about like that.

Additionally, check the manufacturers website for details on how to look after your helmet.
Buy the best gear you can afford. Jeans and trainers are not an option.
Even at 30mph, skidding across the road will take your skin down to the bone in seconds.
Look for motorcycle clothing that offers added protection for your elbows, knees, back, chest and shoulders.
Your gear may be able to prevent you having a crash in the first place by making you easier to see. Choose gear that is high vis and reflective.
Always wear boots - trainers don't protect your ankles.
Proper motorcycle gloves will help save your hands from gravel rash when you come off your moped/bike.
